Marijah , de son vrai nom Marie-France Bac Cam Bao est née à Vientiane au Laos le 8 décembre 1974. Elle est la troisième enfant à avoir vu le jour dans ce pays, après un premier exil de ses ancêtres, fuyant une première fois le communisme grandissant depuis le Nord du Vietnam, le Pays Taï.

Un an après sa naissance, ses parents choisirent la France comme nouvelle terre d’accueil, laissant derrière eux certains membres de leur famille et se séparant des autres qui préférèrent d’autres destinations. C’est donc en région parisienne qu’elle grandit entourée de ses trois frères et sœur, dont le dernier est né ici.

Très tôt, Marijah est attirée par les différences ethniques que lui insufflent ses amitiés diverses. L’attirance pour l’expression artistique s’est développée très tôt par le goût du dessin et de la musique. Ce n’est qu’en classe de seconde que Marie-France à pu se diriger vers des études d’arts appliqués (Lycée Camille Claudel-Vauréal) les abandonnant après le Bac en poche, pour se tourner vers des études universitaires d’arts-plastiques jusqu’en année de maîtrise ( Centre St Charles-Paris 15), qu’elle juge moins mercantiles.

En parallèle elle chante tantôt en tant que choriste tantôt en tant que lead dans des groupes de reggae, formés entre amis. C’est le tournant d’une nouvelle manière de vivre et de penser. Marijah adhère de façon non extrémiste à la philosophie Rastafari et aux paroles de Bob Marley qui chantait “Exode, mouvement du peuple de Jah”.

Son travail de recherche est porté vers la question de “culturation et d’acculturation”, dont la principale ligne de conduite étant le métissage culturel à travers les voyages, sous l’intitulé “Ecritures métisses”. L’étudiante exprime ses idées sous forme d’installations de plus en plus épurées d’écritures gestuelles sur des mètres de film plastique qu’elle met en scène dans l’espace de la faculté.

Ses voyages aux Antilles et notamment sur l’île de la Dominique, où elle fit connaissance avec le milieu rasta, les Saintes Ecritures et un voyage en Afrique de l’Ouest marquent à jamais ses sujets artistiques.

Cependant, Marijah fait une longue pause dans sa propre création, travaillant en tant qu’intervenante en arts-plastiques dans une école maternelle et primaire de St Leu la Forêt. Cet emploi-jeune ne lui permet pas de pouvoir continuer ses études mais lui aura inculqué le plaisir d’enseigner l’art à l’école et aux enfants, ce qu’elle fait aujourd’hui profiter à son petit garçon.

La peinture sur toile est son nouveau domaine de prédilection, usant des propriétés de l’acrylique, pour sa rapidité de séchage et de matière plastique. Ses thèmes sont la “Résurrection”, dont elle présente 13 toiles comme le condensé d’une “période transitoire” dans sa “quête personnelle et spirituelle”.

Une parenthèse avec six portraits “Ethnimaginaires” et leurs déclinaisons en transferts pour textile, viennent s’ajouter à son répertoire, comme pour traduire ce côté humaniste qui la lie aux peuples de la Terre, dont un intérêt également pour l’étude des thèmes astraux.

“Entre Ciel et Terre” correspond à sa période “Bleue” qui l’entrainera à faire un parallèle entre la mer et la mère qu’elle est devenue. Cet élément “eau” qui tempèrera son tempéramant de feu marque le tournant dans sa nouvelle vie. A la recherche d’une quête moins spirituelle, qui l’a fait retomber sur terre, mais qui sait pour combien de temps ? Marijah garde toujours une tête dans les étoiles…

Marijah a choisi d’œuvrer sous ce pseudonyme -”J’aime ce prénom qui ne rejette pas le nom donné à ma naissance mais ajoute celui du Créateur en qui je voudrais remercier mes actes de création tant quotidiens qu’artistiques, d’ailleurs je pense que -l’art est une manifestation des élans divins qui demeurent en chacun de nous-”.

C’est sous le soleil du Languedoc-Roussillon que Marijah est actuellement basée en famille agrandit par la venue d’une petite fille.

Marijah, aka Marie-France Bac Cam Bao was born at Vientiane in Laos on December 8, 1974.

She is the third child to have seen the day in this country, after a first banishment of her ancestors, fleeing a first time because of the growing Communism from the North of Vietnam, the Country Taï.

One year after her birth, her parents chose France as new harbor land, leaving behind them certain members of their family and separating from the others which preferred other destinations. It is thus in Paris area that she grows surrounded of her three brothers and sister, of which the last brother was born in France.

Very early, Marijah is attracted by the ethnic differences which her various friendships insufflate to her. Attraction for the artistic expression developed very early by the taste for drawing and music. It’s only after the secondary school, that Marijah moved towards studies of applied arts (High School Camille Claudel-Vauréal) giving up them after the leaving-certificate done, to turn to university studies art and social siences until the year of master’s degree (four years after)(Center St Charles-Paris 15), that she judges less mercantile.

In parallel she sings sometimes as a chorus-singer sometimes as a lead in reggae bands, formed between friends. It is the revolving in a new way of living and thinking. Marijah adheres not in an extremist way to rastafari philosophy and to Bob Marley’s words who sang “Exodus, movement of Jah people”.

Her research task is carried towards the question of “culturation and acculturation”, of which the principal policy being the cultural interbreeding through the voyages, under the heading “Mongrel Writings”. The student expresses her ideas in the form of installations increasingly purified of gestural writings on meters of plastic film which she puts in scene in the space of the University.

Her voyages to West Indies and in particular in Dominica island where she met Rastas people, the Holy Scriptures and a voyage in West Africa marked her artistic subjects forever.

However, Marijah makes a long break in her own creation, working as helping teachers in art in a nursery school and primary at St Leu La Forêt. This “Emploi-Jeune” does not allow her to be able to continue her studies but it will have inculcated to her the pleasure of teaching art at school and to the children, which she makes today benefit her little boy.

Painting on canvas is her new field of predilection, using of the properties of the acrylic painting, for its speed of drying and plastic. Her topics are the “Resurrection”, of which she presents 13 canvas like the condenced of a “transitional period” in her “personal ad spiritual search”.

A bracket with six portraits “Ethnimaginaires” and their variations in transfers for textile, come to be added to her repertory, as to translate this humanistic side which binds her to the people of the Earth, of which an interest also for the study of the birth charts.

“Between Sky and Ground” corresponds to her “Blue” period which will involve her to make a parallel between the sea and the mother that she became. This element “water” which will pacify her temperament of fire marks the revolving in her new life. With the search for a less spiritual offertory, who makes her fall down on ground, but which knows for how long ?
Marijah always keeps a head near the stars…

Marijah chose to work under this pseudonym. – “I like this first name which does not reject the name given to my birth but adds that of the Creator in which I would like to thank my acts of creation as well daily as artistic, moreover I think that – art is a manifestation of divine momentums which remain of each one of us – “.

It is under the sun of Languedoc-Roussillon that Marijah is currently based in family expands with the arrival of a daughter.
